During the brutal 2020 Covid outbreak in New York, a frontline resident doctor and her husband must face love, deaths, fear and helplessness before her next 24-hour shift in the ‘Death Zone’.

Of course, the title of the film comes from the iconic Beatles hit. When doctors finally took the first surviving patient off the ventilator after months of desperate fighting, this song was played over loudspeakers throughout the hospital. They continued to play it after each survivor to let all the struggling frontline staff know: there is hope.

Working 100-hour weeks, fighting without PPE and without a cure, helplessly watching death after death, the health workers naturally took their work home with them; and thanks to the virus' ability to spread rapidly, not only in their minds and souls, but literally.

True stories tend to be dramas, probably because life is pretty dramatic. This film is no exception. However, drama is not for everyone, but its sub-genre, the medical drama, is surprisingly a wildly popular one.

We are planning to keep the final cut to between 85 and 100 minutes at the most.

The film will be shot on the smallest possible professional digital cameras with a skeleton crew to preserve and enhance the highly intimate feel of the story. The film will be in colour, but the palette will be mostly dull and gloomy, like a stormy, overcast day.

The story is set in Manhattan, NYC - the most popular city in the world. The exteriors are shot in the city with a skeleton crew, so no closures are necessary. The 70% of the film takes place in an apartment, which can be shot anywhere along with all the other interior locations. Due to the setting, the overall production value will greatly exceed the actual budget.

The time of pandemic is both the backdrop and the catalyst which enables our characters to become their true selves, under extreme circumstances. The pandemic is still on everyone's mind, and in everyone's day to day life. But our story, our love story which epitomizes what it means to completely accept your partner for who they really are, is not only universal...

The inspiration of
‘HERE COMES THE SUN’
My wife is an ICU resident doctor and worked in a ‘Death Zone’ hospital in The Bronx under the outbreak.
I had to watch the love of my life fighting the virus without proper PPE or PCR tests, putting her life and our future on the line. I want the people to know the hidden, grim struggles of the healthcare workers between their dreadful shifts.
